[Staples-announce] LOCKDOWN at SSES

Dear Parents:
 
As part of our Easton Emergency Plan, we are required to practice a
LOCKDOWN periodically in the schools.   We conduct drills like this from
time-to-time to review with students and staff how to react in an
emergency.  The process is really quite simple. The teacher locks the
classroom door and windows and pulls the shades closed.  The teacher
turns off the lights and moves the entire class away from the door or
windows.  The class tries to remain as quiet as possible, giving the
impression that no one is inside the room.
 
You may remember that we had our first LOCKDOWN last October that went
very well.  This afternoon we had our second LOCKDOWN which was
completed without complication. 
 
It is our hope that this training will become second nature to the
children, and it will not provoke any anxiety or alarm.  I encourage you
to talk with your child about this LOCKDOWN drill in order to better
understand their role during an emergency situation.  As usual, if you
